October is one of the busiest months of the year for phone launches, and 2026 is no exception. Here is what is arriving, based on confirmed dates and the most consistent leaks.
The headline: batteries are getting huge
- Vivo V80 (India, October 6): 6.59-inch 1.5K 144 Hz OLED, 7,200 mAh battery with 90 W charging, Zeiss-tuned 50 MP main and 3x telephoto cameras, running OriginOS 7 on Android 17.
- Vivo S2 FE (India, October 6): Dimensity 7300E, with a reported 10,000 mAh battery and 44 W charging. Battery reports conflict, so take that figure with a pinch of salt.
- Vivo X Fold6 (India and global, October 6): 8.02-inch inner foldable display, Dimensity 9500 Super, 7,000 mAh battery, 80 W charging.
- Oppo F35 and F35 Pro (India, October 5): the Pro uses a Dimensity 7360 Max, an 8,000 to 10,000 mAh battery, 80 W charging and an IP69K rating.
- Oppo K14 Plus (September 29): Dimensity 7360 Max, 8,000 mAh battery, 1.5K 144 Hz AMOLED.
- OnePlus 16 (China in October, global later): 6.78-inch 165 Hz AMOLED, 9,000 mAh battery, Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6, up to 16 GB RAM and 1 TB storage, 200 MP main camera.
- Oppo Find X10 (global, date to be confirmed): Dimensity 9600M and a 200 MP periscope camera.
- Also expected: the gaming-focused RedMagic 12 Pro+ and the iQOO 16 with an 8,400 mAh battery and a 165 Hz panel.
Software and wearables
- Nothing OS 5.0, based on Android 17, has started rolling out to Nothing Phone (3) owners.
- WhatsApp is testing scheduled messages with a small group of beta users.
- Google announced the Fitbit Edge, a screen-equipped tracker positioned between the Pixel Watch 5 and the Fitbit Air.
What it means for app developers
- High refresh rates are the norm. With 144 and 165 Hz panels on mid-range phones, janky animations are more visible than ever. Test on a high-refresh device.
- Screens are big and sharp. 1.5K resolution on 6.6 to 6.9-inch panels, plus foldables, means adaptive layouts pay off.
- Big batteries are not a licence to waste power. Users still notice background drain, and Android keeps tightening background limits.
- Android 17 is shipping on new phones now. Make sure your app is tested on it before the holiday season.
Specs for unreleased phones are based on leaks and may change at launch.
